We are organizing a summer paddle up Maligne Lake the second weekend in July and I'm putting the details we have so far out there to see if anyone would like to join us.
Here's what we have:
July 8th : Meet for supper in Jasper (optional). Overnight at Whistlers campground.
July 9th : Put in at Maligne Lake boat launch - 8 AM. Paddle to Fisherman's Cove (13K). Set up camp and overnight here.
July 10th: Put in at 8 AM and paddle to Coronet Creek (8.3K). Set up camp and overnight here.
July 11th: Put in at 8 AM and paddle back to Fisherman's Cove . Set up camp and overnight here.
July 12th: Put in a 8 AM and paddle back to boat launch. We're done!
If you are interested, you will need to reserve a campsite at both Fisherman's Cove and Coronet Creek. Realize that they fill up fast and are very limited in the number of sites available. Here is the number to reserve backcountry campgrounds: 403 292-4401. The reservation fee is $11.70 and the fee per person is 9.80 per night.

Looks like our icebreaker trip may be early this year, watch for the announcement of this excellent sensory experience. Paddling through columnar crystals of ice, sounds and feels like no other paddling experience.

The trips page is now populated with pictures from previous years. There is just over 300 pictures in there so be sure to take your time and take a good look at them. We will still be trying to add descriptions of the trips in the future.

April 2nd to April 9th
After some deliberations the decision is to go to Gulf Islands National Park with South Pender Island being the base. It features the mildest spring weather, somewhat sheltered paddling, nice campground, good scenery and gunkholing and good possibility for seeing Orca, dolphins, sea lions, seals and pilot whales. Easter this year is in the area of April 2 to 9 th. Jim is getting charts and maps together and working on preplanning the trip.
This trip is for the person that has some paddling experience, but is still a fairly easy trip with relatively low risks. Prerequisites for the trip are:
1. written/oral test on ocean navigation/tides/currents/safety and demonstration of self recovery techniques (pool session) OR....
2. participation in a past club - ocean trip.

First of all I would like to welcome everyone to the new site. Second, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mathieu I'm completely new to the world of kayaking. I found this club just by looking for a good activity to do in my spare time. I am looking forward to getting out there on the water and learning lots from all the club members.
Back on the topic of the site, it is still a work in progress but I believe it will become a very useful resource to the club. As you will see at the top of the page is the navifation bar. On it you will be able to guide yourself through the site to find out information about the club, upcoming trips, previous trips, safety information, a resource page and access to the lslskc forums.
So take some time browse the pages and enjoy. If you feel there is any feature/information you would like to see on the site click on the contact us link and fill out the form.
Dont forget to register in the forums.
