Only a 2.5 hour drive northwest of Edmonton, Lesser Slave Lake Region is commonly known as Alberta's Big Lake Country and no wonder, at 1160 square km and measuring over 100km long and 15km at its widest point. Lesser Slave Lake averages 11.4 m in depth and is 20.5m at its deepest. It drains eastwards into the Athabaca river by way of the Lesser Slave River. The town of Slave Lake is located at the eastern tip of the lake, around the oultflow of Lesser Slave River.
The Lesser Slave Lake region is ideally suited to Sea Kayaking. The centerpiece being Lesser Slave Lake - Alberta's inland sea. On one day the lake can be as calm as a looking glass, with nary a ripple, wait a few minutes, and we can have waves challenging the most experienced paddlers.
Most of our area rivers and creeks provide excellent paddling opportunities, for an afternoon outing, overnight trip, or a many day trip with destinations as far as the arctic ocean.
( This 120 km long lake delivers high waves because of the long fetch and short wavelengths because of the comparatively shallow water.)
Although the club does not have a designated meeting place. The town of Slave lake acts as a hub for the club's members. The Town offers boat access to Lesser Slave Lake, as well as a beautiful beach and recreation center where we can offer training classes to all members
